UPCOMING WEBINARS
APRIL 22 / GATEKEEPERS IN THE DSA PACKAGE: WHAT ABOUT VOD?

The European Audiovisual Observatory is hosting their 2nd free webinar of their series on the Digital Services Act Package: Gatekeepers in the DSA Package: What about VoD? The DSA package is a so-called horizontal regulatory framework, that applies to any online intermediary service. Regarding the audiovisual sector, this means that video-sharing platforms will be subject to the new rules, but not broadcasting or VOD services. Being editorially responsible platforms, the latter are subject to the Audiovisual media services directive. Which regulatory tools apply to AVMS services with a potential gateway function on the market? Come along and join the discussion, along with Marc Putman (EUROVOD president and CEO of OUTTV Media), Gilles Fontaine (Head of the Observatory’s Department for Market Information), Oliver Budzinski (Professor of Economic Theory at Ilmenau University of Technology), Anna Herold (Head of the Audiovisual and Media Policy Unit, DG Connect, European Commission), Anna Solar-Bassett (Group Head of Content Policy, Vodafone), Cécile Despringre, (Executive Director, Society of Audiovisual Authors), Miruna Herovanu (Senior EU Policy officer, Association of Commercial Television in Europe), Alexandra Lebret (Managing Director, European Producers Club), panel moderated by Maja Cappello (Head of the Observatory’s Department for Legal Information).

APRIL 30 / ON-DEMAND AND BORDER-FREE? NEW REALITIES FOR THE EUROPEAN AV MARKET
Join us online Friday 30th April from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM CET for taking part to the the conference organised by EUROVOD in partnership with the EUROPEAN CO-PRODUCTION FORUM & Ecran Total focusing on the revision on the geoblocking regulation.
The Covid crisis intensified demand for online content. For some, the free movement of content is a logical extension of the free movement of people and opens up new potential for the cross-border reach of European works. For large parts of the industry, undermining the system of territorial rights puts the future of EU production in danger. What's next in the European debate over geo-blocking ? What has been the impact of cross-border portability regulations in the EU? Does a greater emphasis on co-production offer a better mechanism for cross-border reach? How would ending geo-blocking affect the availability and diversity of productions and their distribution? What would more open borders mean for the fight against piracy?
Chaired by Michael Gubbins (SampoMedia), with speakers: Emmanuelle Du Chalard (Deputy Head of Unit I2 Copyright, DG Connect, European Commision), Robin Boldon (OpSec Security), Charlotte Lund Thomsen (IVF / FIAPF), Grégoire Polad (Association of Commercial Television).
